A ghee-licious journey through Indian sweet treats

Ghee, the clarified butter of India, holds a special place in the culinary landscape, not just for savoury dishes but also for a vast array of decadent sweets. Begin a delightful journey with us as we explore four iconic ghee-infused treats: Mysore Pak, Chandrakala, Ghevar, and Halwa.

Mysore Pak

Originating from the city of Mysore in Karnataka, Mysore Pak is a rich, fudge-like dessert that has captivated taste buds for centuries. The key to its irresistible texture lies in the preparation of besan (gram flour), Godrej Jesrsey ghee, and sugar, cooked to perfection. Every bite of Godrej Jersey Mysore Pak is full of richness, with the nutty aroma of ghee blending with the sweetness of sugar and a hint of cardamom.

Chandrakala

Chandrakala, meaning ‘moon-shaped’ in Hindi, is a flaky pastry that resembles the crescent moon. Its delicate layers, infused with ghee, envelop a rich, flavourful filling, often made with nuts, dried fruits, and a touch of cardamom. The contrast between the crispy exterior and the soft, flavourful filling makes Chandrakala a true delight for the palate.

Ghevar

Ghevar, a disc-shaped pastry, is a popular sweet during festivals and celebrations in India. Its unique honeycomb-like texture is achieved by pouring a batter made from flour, ghee, and milk solids into a perforated mould and then frying it to perfection. Once fried, the Ghevar is soaked in a fragrant sugar syrup, often infused with rose water or saffron, adding another layer of sweetness and depth of flavour.

Halwa

Halwa, a term encompassing a wide range of sweets, is a staple in Indian cuisine. From the popular Suji Halwa (made with semolina) to richer varieties like Badam Halwa (almond), ghee plays a crucial role in achieving the desired texture and enhancing the flavours of nuts and spices. The addition of Godrej Jersey cow ghee imparts a luxurious richness and a subtle nutty aroma, making Halwa a truly irresistible treat.
