Who doesn’t love kheer? A tasty kheer is both fulfilling and soul-satisfying; and this prize-winning recipe from the Diwali contest by Shri Bala is sure to impress your guests this festive season
Abhipsa Saran’s traditional family recipe of Chuda (poha) kheer won her the third place in the Diwali recipe contest. A family favourite, this recipe has been in Abhipsa’s family for generations.

Cashew and kishmish
Wash and clean the chuda and soak for 10 minutes. Boil the milk. In a kadai, add the ghee and fry the nuts. In the same kadai, add soaked chuda and fry till it is dry and then add milk to it and cook.
Cook it till its soft and the milk becomes thick. Add the salt and sugar and continue cooking. When the kheer is soft, switch off the gas and garnish with cardamom powder and fried nuts.
