  •  Make sure you store fresh food in the refrigerator. Food can only be preserved, not rejuvenated.
  • Don't store hot food in the fridge. Let it to cool down to room temperature before keeping it inside.
  • You don't need to store unopened canned food in the refrigerator.
  • Don't cover the shelves in the fridge with paper or plastic sheets as it restricts air circulation.
  • Don't open the fridge door too often or for longer than necessary, especially during power cuts.
  • Do not store liquids in cans or bottles in the freezer as they may burst.
  • Don't store frozen foods in the freezer after thawing since they aren't safe for consumption.
  • It is better to freeze bigger pieces of meat. So avoid mincing the meat in advance.
  • Milk packets should be stored in the chiller.
  • All moist food should either be packed in containers or wrapped in polythene bags or aluminum foil.
  • Ginger, garlic and red chilli pastes can be stored in the freezer for 15-20 days.
  • Avoid keeping vegetables right in front of the vents of the air flow duct to avoid spoilage.
  • Excessive moisture on fruits or veggies can lead to decay. So if you wash them, make sure they are thoroughly drained and kept out to dry for sometime before storing them.
  • Loosely wrap all leafy vegetables in bags. You can also cut the roots of the veggies before storing them.
  • Fruits and vegetables with strong odours should be tightly wrapped up in bags and then stored.
  • Ripe fruits should not be stored with vegetables as they release ethylene gas. This can turn certain vegetables (like lettuce) brown.
