Patrani Macchi: A delicious parcel of Parsi goodness

Parsi New Year is around the corner and what better time than to treat yourself to some authentic Parsi fare? Patrani Macchi is a much loved dish and not without reason. With its blend of sweet, tangy and fiery flavours, this steamed fish dish is addictive and super healthy. Chef Dipon Mukherjee shares the recipe for this quick and oh-so-yummy dish and we promise you won’t be able to stop at just one!

Serves 5-6
Ingredients
Banana leaves 4
Fish 1kg (preferably pomfret)
Lime juice from 2 limes
Salt to taste

THE CHUTNEY
Coconut 1, grated
Green chillies 6
Coriander leaves with stems 50g
Mint leaves 1 tbsp
Cumin seeds 1 tsp
Sugar 1 Tsp
Salt to taste

Method
Marinate the fillets of fish in lime juice and salt for 30 minutes. Grind all the ingredients for the chutney till smooth. Coat the fillets on both sides with chutney and wrap them in the banana leaves. Tie the parcels with string. Steam for around 10-15 minutes. Eat with hot rice and enjoy!
